An emotional yet still cinematic journey, into which the leading singer pours soulful poetry – weaving around you a beautifully ambient blanket of warmth. This is a personal favourite from Glorybots to date, and an easy song to escape within.
Queen Calida gets real in a soulful and impressively minimalist manner on this latest release. The track is notably raw, but this adds beautifully to the inherent sense of honesty and authenticity that you get from the sound.
What’s clever about the creative production is that you don’t see the onslaught approaching – there’s no pause and subsequent heavy drop like there would be in a traditional EDM piece. Somehow, somewhere along the way, Heidscrape capture and contain you within this whirlwind of audio escapism.
There’s a firmly rooted street or gangster rap vibe to this album from Malripken – both the soundscape and the lyrical performances alike offer that gritty, intense and energetic aura that was the peak of the genre throughout the nineties.
The band’s sound is classic, not instrumentally groundbreaking but strong enough to impress and entertain. What gives them their edge though is the songs, the approach, the heart.
