Sarantos Tired Of Being Scared

-

“There should never be a reason for conflicted or confused young people struggling with feelings of sexuality to commit suicide.” – Sarantos.

Tired Of Being Scared is the brand new song from artist and songwriter Sarantos. The song was initially a response to the sad news of David Bowie’s passing; it’s intended as a tribute, and proceeds from the track will go to The Trevor Project – a leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) young people, aged 13-24. It’s a more than worthy cause, one that can and does quite literally mean the difference between life and death for many young people. Head over to their Website to find out more, and in the mean time – here’s what we made of the track.

The music is strong, the theme is crucial, and the melody and harmonies used for that main line or chorus section are bold and memorable. At it’s core, background and concept aside, this one is an emotionally driven pop song, with an unapologetic vocal narrative, and a catchy hook to make you really remember that key idea. The unapologetic nature of the lyrics is worth mentioning again, as it’s important. It’s an important song – it touches on a topic that matters; one that is still very much in need of a voice, every single day. The title is perfectly appropriate and highlights quite precisely one of the crushing feelings that many people in this sort of situation experience on a daily basis. The manner in which the topic is presented and performed is unflinchingly honest, and real. A life lived in fear is not much of a life at all, and no one should have to live that way. Any artist trying to draw focus and thought towards such an issue is always worth taking the time out to listen to and support.

There’s a huge amount of emotion in Sarantos’ voice, there’s a distinct style to his vocal performance, a unique tone that carries with it a certain sort vulnerability – which is not often heard in pop music. What it does, particularly in the case of this kind of song, is reach out more effectively to those who are most likely to be moved by such a track. It gives listeners a more believable narrative, someone they can relate to, someone they can trust and understand. I think that’s possibly one of the strongest elements of this song. That personal touch really brings out the bare emotions, those which ultimately lead to the creation of the project in the first place.
