Treeko291 is it time to quit

-

Uniquely colourful lo-fi grooves and mellow, distinct vocals – a humble and dreamy tapestry of sound and lyricism, introducing the four-track EP from a stylistically unconfined Treeko291.

HunieBuns is the opening track from is it time to quit, and the style confidently meanders through rhythmic ideas, hooks, and ethereal, retro keys.

The project continues with a similarly playful programmed musicality, the free-flowing old-school bassline and electro groove of Track 2 Title offering an instrumental adlib that naturally bridges the gap between the rap stories of the opener and the subsequent No More Muic. Gritty vocals shine light on another performative side of Treeko291 here, before only in a vacuum presents an echo-chamber of other-worldly calm and contemplation.

Always the ideas feel both experimental and profound, boldly human but playful in a manner that takes subtle inspiration from the likes of Childish Gambino, Tyler, the Creator, and even some outlandish electro-pop producers from recent years.

Also released this year, the EP The Pre-Season kicks off with a dark and experimental take that is Bitch Made Boogie – that fearless creativity paving the way once again, for an unpredictable and distinct album of original tracks.

Then if we take things back to 2024, of the year showcased all the more artistic veering from the norm – whispered rhythms, mystique and mysticism, vocal versatility, and a striking contrast between moments of quiet and those of outright chaos and weight.

Treeko291’s whole approach is to make music for fun, and you can hear this quality resounding in swathes throughout each full-length EP from the elusive artist. The music is unlimited by genre or style, and instead presents a level of escapism from the producer and songwriter, which naturally lets the audience escape too – into this unexpected world of multi-layered complexity and freedom that is the fluidity and fun of the sound. Consider disco farry ride, and then in heavy contrast, the unapologetically minimalist and revealing Mistake King.

Treeko291 holds nothing back, and needs no such genre tags or labels to present a brand new EP every couple of months. Work ethic and passion walk hand-in-hand, and the music speaks loudly on behalf of that.
