Tragedy Channel Can’t Hold On

-

It’s always a joy to stumble upon a song that genuinely needs streaming multiple times purely for the love of it before even attempting to write a related feature. What is it that Tragedy Channel have captured here? Let me figure it out…

In reverse order, the hook – the electronic rock weight and mellow yet intense pulse of the rhythm hits with quickly addictive strength; an engaging, simple rhyming pattern, with a fuzz-soaked, distorted yet melodic core. Simultaneously we get a series of intriguing, conceptual lyrics, which provoke notably deeper thought than most singles. Prior to this, however, there’s almost a trip-hop, lo-fi appearance to the opening verse. Again, the lyrics intrigue early on – where are we, what’s the topic here, why does its vagueness connect on such a profound level?

In short, Tragedy Channel have crafted something unexpected – something that caters to our desire to re-live the nineties; those alternative rock hits that surprised and satisfied in ways we could never have predicted.

The set-up of the song is naturally effective, this structure and movement from one moment to the next. The use of contrast plays a huge part. Really it’s how refreshing the story-telling is, how involved you feel as a listener, and how hypnotic the finished piece is when experienced at volume.

A total pleasure to stumble on – a fascinating, talented and creative band. This single marches straight to the top of our 2020 Vision Playlist on the home page. Hopefully there’s plenty more music on the way.

Download the single via iTunes. Find & follow Tragedy Channel on Facebook, Twitter & Instagram or visit their Website.
