Dreamlike acoustic guitar sets the mood, intimacy and musicianship engaging with a romantic aura, before we’re introduced to the lightly trippy rhythms, distant saxophone, and breathy, melodic and evocative vocals.
Ultimately blending subtle aspects of RnB with acoustic Pop and creative Trip Hop, ShaynetheCub’s Wrong is a thoughtful pop single, with a distinct style and a story loaded with metaphorical imagery.
The writing is strong, the vocal warmth too – Wrong delivers a brilliant hook, “Even your Daddy knows you’re wrong” resounding in a clever and memorable way. It’s an emotional single to this point, but presented in an ethereal and musically fresh manner, and as we learn more about the details of the writing, that hook works perfectly in rounding up the scorn of the sentiments.
Less than three minutes in full but all the while including a plethora of likable traits, from the fingerstyle guitar to the nostalgic whispered vocals and reverb-drenched front line. Even the groove has character, the sax and hi-hats combined effectively weaving in a touch of Jazz to further elevate the genre cocktail of the finished track.
ShaynetheCub writes well, performs in a recognisable fashion, and produces the track with humility and heart. It’s an easy to vibe to single, unique and naturally an earworm. I look forward to hearing more.
