Producer and artist Ryan Jesse creates a unique audio realm for electronic music fans to escape into with this thoughtfully captured and unpredictably progressive new single.
From humble beginnings, AQUA SPACE blends a simple, space-like fragment of delicacy with spoken word and an implied concept, before things hit the one-minute mark with a bang to welcome in a second single instrument – one of a much heavier, distorted and striking nature.
This single-unit style proves a consistent trait throughout the track, each sample or sound being replaced by another as the piece rolls along, slowly but surely gathering momentum but never simply adhering to expectation or industry standard. There’s a clear sense of creative freedom to the whole thing, which brings in a welcomed air of composition that’s far more rare in electronic music production – dubstep in particular.
The mid-section features a throbbing bass-line that hits with industrial darkness and intensity, before fizzling out into quieter, fading realms, then resolving back to the softness and intrigue of the opening few bars. You can see this evolution and resolve just by looking at the audio wave file, and you can hear it and feel it occurring in the way that you can with any greatly intentional instrumental story-line.
It will be interesting to hear where else the music takes Ryan Jesse in the near future.
