UK punks Sir Sidney Squacko and Lord Jonny Macko compile the fast-paced indie sound of Radio Rubbish – a modern rock duo taking on the topical tribulations of our time.
Fuelled by the upcoming US election, Maga, Maga!! is precisely the anti-establishment punk rock single you’d expect from its title, but the sound is much more lo-fi and welcoming than gritty and outlandish.
That balance works well – simple verses rising and falling, a mild call and response lighting up the end-sentence resolves. Meanwhile we always come back to this simple and infectiously catchy hook and title, with dashes of psychedelic guitar-play adding further distinction and character to the sound.
Inspired by the likes of The Dead Kennedys, Radio Rubbish promise a yesteryear simplicity and scorn with their music, but also pay close attention to melody and groove. The track is accessible, attention-grabbing, and will no doubt go down well at left-leaning gigs and old-school punk and rock venues alike.
Energetic and memorable indie punk rock, familiar but conceptually fresh, with a relatable sense of accessible personality and raw, homemade musicality to the set-up and performance. Maga, Maga!! hits with impact and is quick to leave its mark.
