Liz Davinci - Adamas - Stereo Stickman

Liz Davinci Adamas

-

Delicate solo harmonies and dramatic piano create a compelling opening dynamic, as Liz Davinci proceeds to craft a chamber of poetic contemplation, for Adamas.

Whispered vocals continue to guide us, a theatrical long-form melody akin to the likes of Kate Bush, perhaps, but otherwise the song presents its own subtle and organic sense of intensity and urgency. The lyrics gather momentum before resolving for a more secure and satisfying repeating idea – a moment reinforced by those additional vocals once again.

Utterly unpredictable in its artistry and particularly in its near six-minute lifespan, Adamas leads with a clearly genuine live performance style, and fills out that space with the multiple vocal layers and harmonies that help bring home the rising melody and the conceptual intrigue of the story.

It’s a song that reads like a poem, and presents like a scene in a musical play. The imagery is striking, the threads between those images less clean-cut, and the switch to a more urgent and melancholic simplicity for the apparent hook is a notable re-direction.

Vineyards line the hills
And rain clouds
Loom and stall
Lizards and roses
Climb the old stone walls
A barbecue, dry grass and
A collapsed parasol
.”

Liz Davinci fascinates with this release, effectively creating an original space of wonder and uncertainty, with familiar qualities but a broader degree of unfamiliar musings and tone to really counter any idle comfort.

Adamas is a musical mystery that’s quite spellbinding, and it marks a fine introduction to the songwriter and artist Liz Davinci.
