Jaydii aims high and hits the mark with this beautifully inspiring follow-up to January’s Carnegie Hall.
Ferris Wheel is a lo-fi-style hip hop track with a brightness to its musicality and an impressively varied pace and engaging consciousness to its lyrical backbone.
Jaydii quickly connects with these bars, this range of rhythms that pours through as the sub-three-minute track briefly but boldly leaves its mark.
Meanwhile, the music is easy to love – simple good vibes, delicate and dreamy, uplifting and optimistic. The mellow groove of the soundscape juxtaposes the increasing energy and complexity of the vocal in a captivating way, so you’re lost within the positive mood of the music, but compelled by the relentless outpouring of images and reflections.
The seemingly simple arrangement misleads – the profoundly conscious nature of the lyrics proves far from satisfying with a single listen; the track begs for repeat plays, at which point Jaydii subtly elevates himself from good to great to superb.
Well worth a few spins this season.
