Grace Maher - Hard to Ignore - Stereo Stickman

Grace Maher Hard to Ignore

-

From a soft-rock to country set-up, through smooth to power-ballad vocals and a mighty resolve of a hook, singer and songwriter Grace Maher creates a nostalgic anthem of a hit, with the poetic and personal Hard To Ignore.

Beginning with a simple but fitting riff, laying bare the natural strength and fluidity of Grace’s voice, Hard To Ignore offers the striking yet perhaps relatable opening line of “My therapist said I probably shouldn’t talk to you anymore.” It’s a quirky but accessible statement, and the story continues in this straight forward, scene setting manner, until we get to the more abstract rising passion of the chorus.

Hard to Ignore promises a likable build up, the energy growing consistently, and tops that off with a huge and thoughtful chorus. “When does the light come back?” resounds beautifully, the music finding its groove with live drums and additional layers, for that true fusion of country pop and rock amidst a fresh story and a natural earworm of a hook.

The single feels something like an ode to a simpler era, that of Sheryl Crow and Alanis Morrissette, but its suggested only in the instrumentation and the songwriting structure, perhaps the story, and not the individuality, the heartfelt warmth, nor tone of the voice. Grace Maher carves out a lane that’s clearly her own right now, with a deeply moving single that’s both honest and enjoyable as it gathers satisfying momentum.

A superb introduction to an artist with a certain humility and effortlessness to her clear talent at the helm.
