The beat alone is made up of a fine selection of layers, exquisitely produced so as to let the ambiance pour through with a certain hypnotic delicacy. On top of this, the rap verse is equally entrancing, flawlessly rhythmic, smooth and easy going, and furthermore, completely captivating in story-line.
Bridging the gap between engrossing musicality and unwavering lyricism, this is a single that ticks a whole lot of boxes on both sides of the spectrum. The vocal is superb, softly confident and loaded with character – offering an immediate sense of identity and recognisable tone. Underneath that, the depth of the concept is laid out in consistently engaging and interesting ways – clear imagery crossed with subtle emotion and natural energy.
That descending guitar-style riff plays out long after the song has stopped, and at barely two and a half minutes long, the lyrics and the overall mood beg for you to listen more than once.
