Hi Caroline – Thanks for the interview, and congrats on the beautiful new single! What inspired you to write Open Your Mind

So many things. When the pandemic started, I saw everyone dividing themselves on so many issues. The only way we are going to make progress is to come together and listen to what the other has to say and be open to other ideas.

How long have you been singing and writing songs, and who or what first inspired you to start? ‘

I have been singing for 4-5 years and taking formal voice lessons for 4 years. I started writing songs around the age of 12 when I picked up the guitar and taught myself how to play the guitar. Taylor Swift has always been my inspiration in music.

The song is fairly acoustic at first, guitar-led, leading into a multi-layered set-up with strings and rhythm, additional layers. Do you play any other instruments, and do you play with a full band ever (or hope to)?

I play guitar and piano and ukulele. I take piano lessons and taught myself guitar and ukulele for the most part. I hope to have a full band behind me someday.  That would be a dream!

Given the social issues and images that make up the song and video – what changes do you think we all can start making in order to build a brighter tomorrow?

I think the most important thing is to get educated. Learn what is happening in the world. Learn how different sides think about issues.  Listen to the stories of those that are not like you. And try to think about how it feels to be in their shoes.

How do you balance your time between your studies and writing / recording songs?

My studies are really important to me and my future. I’m currently doing school online so it gives me some extra time and flexibility to write songs and study music.

What’s your biggest dream as an artist?

My biggest dream is to be on stage and perform and write music. I love being on the stage and singing. I want to be someone who makes music people want to listen to and to inspire others.

Is there anything else we should know?

I’m going to keep doing this. This was my very first song. I learned so much and am looking forward to doing more and making a bigger impact.
