Fiction after Lunch – Diverse Storytelling Podcast, with Best Friends Mindy & Sam

-

Self-written stories performed by the authors themselves – an optimistic, impassioned and fun independent podcast, hosted by best friends Mindy and Sam.

Fiction after Lunch covers a broad range of themes, from the humorous to the emotional and even dramatic. The show has gathered momentum over time, most recently culminating in a mildly alcohol-fuelled conversation, within which the upbeat German duo read and reflect upon the stories they wrote in a shared setting the day before.

FURRY in the supermarket is an instantly entertaining episode to begin with if you’re new to Fiction after Lunch, but there’s also a strong sense of connection from one episode to the next – references to past segments and stories that naturally urge you to head back and listen through previous episodes.

We’re welcomed into a laid-back story-time reading, where we’re introduced to characters Fluppy and Walter, simply exploring what’s on offer at their local supermarket. Very quickly we progress from simple cereal shopping to the possibility of making your own mustard gas at home with the ingredients you find at the supermarket, and even to a sudden and brutal instance of violence down one of the isles.

Within minutes, one thing is certain – Fiction after Lunch is an uninhibited, fun, and often frivolous indie podcast. It’s a free-flowing conversational format, loaded with twists and turns that keep you enthralled and entertained, and this quality resounds across dozens of original stories and episodes.

The stark contrast between the silliness and playfulness of this episode and some other more dramatic or dark takes is boldly unexpected, and makes for a truly unpredictable, always engaging, surprising and entertaining storytelling podcast, through which audiences can build a lasting connection with the hosts – thanks to their openness and distinct voices and personalities at the helm.

The Fiction after Lunch podcast acts as a fine example of simply reading stories with your friends. The vibe is authentic, the listener welcomed but also under the impression that this is a genuine, unedited conversation between friends, and that realness is refreshing. The idea is not to take themselves too seriously, and in the process encourage others to have fun with writing stories themselves – to not feel the pressure or worry about the outcome, but to simply enjoy the creativity and freedom of the process.

Given the hosts’ affinity for great food, the podcast episodes are split into meal-related sections. The Appetizer is the casual chat between friends, the Main Dish is the story of choice that day, and the Side Dishes are additional and bonus stories and content.

Since its inception way back in 2021, Fiction after Lunch has established itself as both a reliable and confident indie podcast. The work ethic and unwavering joy of hosts Mindy and Sam in discussing a limitless array of topics and stories is second to none, and the result is a proudly eclectic repertoire of episodes. Mindy and Sam have also recently written their first novel together, and will release this as a published book in the very near future.
