The slow-burning realism of an acoustic and live performance, a man and his guitar, quietly setting that fireside vibe. Firecamino presents an enjoyable listen to begin with, inoffensive and honest, unfiltered and real. However, the true power of Jerusalem emerges during the song’s immense and mighty second half.
The passion explodes during the song’s evolution, the guitar playing brightens, grows suddenly impressive and gripping, and the voice and lyrics absolutely follow suit – a huge build and resolve, a gorgeous sense of being totally devoted to the moment, pouring through with the nuance and depth of Firecamino’s genuine voice.
Jerusalem is deeply thoughtful, comforting then damn near euphoric at its peak, and this is easily one of the most organic, interesting folk-acoustic and country singles to emerge all year. The song feels like a slept-on Dylan hit in some ways – the tired drone, the changing energy, the calm and the chaos, the poetic sentiments, the huge resolve. However, there’s a character and style to the guitar, vocals and writing, which feels purely Firecamino.
Absolutely worth a few streams this year and beyond.
