The Quarantined Skeleton Chair

-

Award-winning songwriter and musician Sean Martin fronts the brilliantly unique genre-fusing indie rock act The Quarantined, delivering this summer an incredibly original story and set-up, for the passionate and powerful Skeleton Chair.

Initially engaging for its acoustic folk-punk aura and stripped-back vocal style, Skeleton Chair soon evolves through various rock sub-genre influences, uniting a huge chorus of anthemic proportions, with intriguing, confronting to inspiring lyrics, soaring guitar solos, and subtle twists of grunge, pop-punk and out-right rock and roll.

It’s a roller-coaster of an introduction to an artist who already notes tens of thousands of monthly listeners, and this continues to get all the more colourful and alluring. ‘Freedom is dead’ rings out and resounds, gathering clear momentum amidst a seemingly politically-charged outpouring of sheer passion and skilful musicianship.

Ultimately presenting as a kind of psychedelic alt-rock infusion of ideas, the performance and set-up of Skeleton Chair are incredibly eclectic, but the song is also notably well-grounded, not least of all by its snappy melodic resolve and the accessible, soulful and distinct nature of the leading voice.

Weave in the dramatic tumble of those drums, the rising anticipation of the mix, and the whole thing proves both alternative and broadly satisfying as an original rock song. It’s a momentous performance from The Quarantined, and it makes for an easy highlight from this summer’s independent rock and metal arena.
