D’Lourdes You Get It Or You Don’t

-

Something quite iconic here emerges, a sense of realism in the extensive outpouring of vulnerability and heart, but captured amidst a clear talent for both songwriting and singing. D’Lourdes is a breath of fresh air in organic indie pop right now, and You Get It Or You Don’t is a 2025 album loaded with creative gems.

As an introduction, the sheer honesty and melodic originality of One of the Boys is superb – a heartbroken vocal outcry and simple live-band backup, a kind of nineties softness entrenched in passionate dismay.

This feels like something between the likes of Alanis and Ani DiFranco, with a twist of soulful softness that’s intoxicating to fall into. And at the same time, D’Lourdes makes sure to assert a clear sense of identity and original artistic depth, both in the writing and the sudden stylistic shifts of the full album.

Consider the rise into distorted and funky uplift, for HEY!. Contrast is masterfully employed, and the artist captivates as we roll through these highs and lows both revealing and often strikingly relatable.

Highlights include Get Hurt, I Know Better, and the mighty Dare You To Be Happy. But then there’s the ambient darkness and dreamy distance of Downfall – the grit and the scorn, the self-reflection and self-awareness intertwined with both complexity and satisfying, simple resolves. And at the end, the acoustic poetry and profound contemplation of Runner.

The whole album is sensational, in my view. Interesting and engaging, with sublime vocals and performative diversity throughout. Easily one of the most impressively original and genuine projects of the year so far. Listen in full.
