Dark synths and poetic wonder create an immaculate and dreamy headspace, as London’s alt-pop songwriter and creative Dirt Flirt starts up this mesmerising new self-titled EP.
Necklace is the opener, blending ethereal synths and modern rhythms, with vocal emotion and effects carefully balanced. Not only this, but the song is well-written – catchy and simple melodically, memorable, and clearly in tune with the changing stages of these introspective images and ideas.
It’s a hugely immersive and impressive introduction to the project, a multi-instrumental dreamland with purposeful thoughts and feelings guiding the musicality.
The EP varies from here on in, Dramatic lifting the mood somewhat, pop-punk weighing in subtly later on for Boyfriend, but that opening sound still rings out in the vocal tone, production haze, and these revealing but relatable lyrics. It’s almost a nod to Sleep Token, vocally, only the genre doesn’t ever reach the heavier peaks, and the songwriting is much more snappy and pop-driven.
All five tracks are eclectic but also grounded and distinct, and equally well-written. DIRT FLIRT the EP is an authentic indie collection, and manages to feel both nostalgic and relevant amidst the current colourful flavours of the mainstream.
