Driving with a five-minute epic that feels all at once like retro grunge and contemporary electronic rock, Yellow Majesty hits the scene with passionate songwriting and sound design alike.
Fresh from the EP of the same name, Tonight’s Blessing is a distorted yet melodically engaging, haunting yet energizing original, which showcases a rising weight and anticipation fairly consistently as it rolls along.
Complete with distant vocals and a mildly familiar progression, the song utilizes unpredictable imagery and poetic references, and backs this up with a thick wall of organic sound – heavy guitars, bass, a raw drum-line with a satisfying tumble for the fills.
The whole thing is a little like Foo Fighters or Queens Of The Stone Age, only there’s something more electronic about it – Yellow Majesty has made this style his own, and it captivates for conceptual and ambient properties in unison.
If you step into the rest of the EP, the organic set-up stands a littler taller – blues-rock guitar-work and infectious yet equally haunting melodies are a clear calling card of Yellow Majesty.
Brilliant, an unsettling yet satisfying sound, well-produced and inviting in terms of the potential live show. Listen loud.
