Introduced as the third and final single from his highly-anticipated debut EP (expected in September), GOLD highlights the emotional and stylistic nuance of Harley’s approach to music, exploring the inevitabilities of life and finding independence, by way of soaring indie guitar layers, live drums, and a relentlessly energising tempo.
Despite the pace, however, the tone is gentle, the voice near falsetto at its peak, and from the opening sound of cascading electric guitar arpeggios and distinct vocals, through to the simple and satisfying peak of the repeating hook, GOLD is both creatively free indie-pop, and firmly grounded, easy-access four-chord familiarity, and that balance is deeply inviting.
