Jonas Gustafsson and Malin Jeraeus are the collaborative artists behind ZKIN, a project ignited by a shared passion for the mystique and escapism of dark pop and electronic music.
Since 2023, the duo have been carving out a uniquely ethereal, immersive lane, and that journey creatively culminates in the release of the bold and beautiful soundscape and song that is Shadows.
From piano to powerful rhythms, short lines and extensive insinuations, Shadows is complex and provocative, whilst being both calming and rather haunting as it gathers clear and compelling momentum. We progress into harmonies, changing rhythmic hits, as we also evolve from the uncertain to the devotedly personal.
All the while, experimental sound-play meets with clear traits of distinction and recognisable flair – certain riffs, the bassline, the vocal hooks and the rising piano. It’s an ocean of waves, tumultuous yet rhythmically enchanting, and it naturally consumes the listener.
Produced and mixed by former Ghost member Simon Söderberg, Shadows is impressively distinct from start to finish – a near four-minute composition, blending poetic contemplations with striking musical shifts, and utilising aspects of electronic darkness and organic musicianship in equal parts.
