Kicking in with a sort of nostalgic break-beats energy, hi-hat-heavy and light yet fast-paced, Yanni Pap’s Signal relights a whole new realm of EDM that had been all but forgotten in recent years.
Building up beautifully throughout its shorter than expected, sub-three-minute lifespan, the track moves from intriguing to calm to explosive, always holding close to a select few character threads for identity, and always returning to this three-chord progression and soulful outcry that help give the track something easily recognisable.
The rise continues throughout, increasingly enveloping listeners in this beautifully euphoric realm of synths and pure emotion. The latter half feels like a Salva Mea sort of blissful aura, yet there’s a simplicity to Yanni’s style that keeps things rooted somewhere new, and this balance works well.
A total pleasure to turn up loud and escape into. A little shorter than anticipated, but it’s always better to leave your audience wanting more. I look forward to further releases.
