Blending the singularity of a contemporary trap rhythm and dreamy soundscape, with consistently meandering vocals that change the pace and switch from rap to melody intermittently – Loverscreek showcases the sound of today intertwined with a recognisable vocal rasp and impressive versatility performance-wise, even in the story-telling.
Increasingly impressive, the song’s hook does far less justice for the overall track than the verses, but the intention of this is to resolve and reach out in a manner that the current scene will connect with, which it does.
Then during the bars, we get more detail, character and depth. Emo-rap vibes prove hypnotic yet there’s a clear sense of tale and identity on top of this, once you listen through.
Ultimately, xobaby carves out a modern hit with just enough skill and alternative energy to really bridge those gaps. It will be interesting to hear where else the music takes him as time goes by.
