Love Me Now is an easy to enjoy piece of music and writing. With each new listen it shines a little more brightly. There’s a classic and somewhat nostalgic backdrop to the track – the beat takes its time to build, offering delicacy and a dreamlike ambiance before the melody and the beat kick in. Other factors feel firmly rooted among today’s sound though – the switch from the melodic to the rapped, the drop from gentleness to rhythm and weight. All of this is subtle, but it works. The song deals with a specific subject matter, it drives with a clear intention and underlying sentiment, and it holds close to that every step of the way.
By the time the track is over, you’re familiar with it – you’ll recognise it again. This subtle ear-worm quality is surprisingly effective. In addition, the quietness and character of that leading voice help reinforce the intimacy of the writing – the personal touch stands tall and lets the whole thing connect on a more genuine level.
