The Lucky Angels The world’s for sale

-

Funky basslines and live rock energy carves out a band-sound that’s hopefully making a huge comeback this year. The Lucky Angels deliver the distortion, depth and soul required to light up the space, with the solid rock stomp and tone of The world’s for sale.

Noting a full minute of instrumental build up before we’re guided by some slick and stylishly raw electric guitar play, The world’s for sale later sees a mellow, nearly spoken leading voice walk us further into the depth’s of this contemporary commentary and juxtaposed timeless indie rock groove.

Think punk-rock and pop from the alternative nineties, only not – something interesting, catchy and unexpected. The structure sees multiple sections take centre stage intermittently, and always the music is as important as the concept – sometimes its even the main point of focus, so you lose yourself in the floor-filler rock vibrancy, before The Lucky Angels return to mention some conceptual observation that’s confronting and provocative.

An engaging band, great writing, and something that feels both surface-level likable and complexly contemplative all at once.
