Never an act to stray away from rocking out and saying whatever comes to mind – The @if return this month with an April Fool’s Day special entitled Prank U (Gold Digger).
The unmistakable sound of the band pours through from the offset – that recognisable vocal, the classic rock and roll energy of the soundscape. Melodically and in terms of the the hook though, this is easily one of The @if’s most anthem-like releases yet. There’s a certain quirkiness and rhythmic embrace about the song’s hook. Though the concept can be left to the imagination of each listener for the most part, there’s an accessibly vague and rightfully rock and roll-like aura to the hook – and indeed to the instrumentation; massively so.
The latter half of the track sees infectious and striking guitar solos drive through the soundscape in a brilliantly nostalgic and energizing way. The song in full gets better and better as it moves along, and in reality – Prank You (Gold Digger) is a song that will likely reach further than a single April Fool’s day would allow. Most likely the track will stand the test of time well.
