TazForte’s return this season brings an aptly-titled, conceptual hip hop project, with retro synths and an overall energy representative of unity and the drive towards success as a team.
The opening and title track lays bare the intentions of the EP, emerging as something of an anthem in itself – TazForte’s guiding vocal utilizing both rap and melody to paint a memorable picture. Meanwhile these vintage synths rain down amidst a contemporary trap beat, and the instrumental continues to progress in a fairly creative, uninhibited fashion.
Once the rap verse kicks in, we get more of the story-line – the calling card that first drew attention to TazForte’s work – and this quality continues throughout the new collection. It’s not all optimism and strength, there’s plenty of realism and detail to pay attention to, but the overall effect is positive.
Making as much use of musical interludes as lyrics and vocal confidence, the music works hard to energize and motivate – it focuses on inspiring belief, and it offers plenty in the way of audio escapism whenever the vocal lead falls away.
