Heavily ambient, distorted yet smooth, emotive yet on point for the contemporary scene – Systovis pours his heart in this new release, and drives with a retro-electronic creative edge in the same instance.
Featuring a uniquely spacious, almost structure-free set-up, with no beat, and no progression past the two-minute-mark, Still Holding On reaches out like a freestyle expression of inner turmoil and longing.
The soundscape evolves just subtly, weaving in new layers of horn and synth, echoes or fragments of melody, and within this two voices take turns to lay down their truth.
Both performances are incredibly passionate, yet still soaked in effects to maintain the electro energy of the completed piece. The whole thing is decidedly unique, following its own rules and subsequently breaking them when the subject matter requires it.
Hopefully there’s more music on the way – the creative freedom speaks volumes.
