Fusing the quickly emotive presence of a synth-soaked, reflective backdrop, with the simple repeat of the single-noted title-word, Stoney’s single Gas surprisingly manages to hold attention well and impress as it meanders through a short yet hypnotic lifespan.
Dreamy production invites interest from the outset, then for the most part the word Gas repeats and repeats alongside this. The verses go on to refresh, two vocals adding dynamic and appeal by means of the flow and their confident handling of the subject matter.
Elsewhere, we get a minimalist vocal anthem that’s clearly in tune with the sound of the moment but also marches to the beat of its own creatively carefree drum.
It works well, ultimately – Stoney creates a sound of his own, and the production, as mentioned, elevates things really well. Hopefully there”s more music to come.
