Freshly released from the creative corner that forever fuses passion and talent to a mighty degree, songwriter Stevski7 releases the grunge-esque tones, contemplative lyrics and outright roar of Hazed Again.
Vocally beautiful and instrumentally immersive to match, Hazed Again stands out initially for its clarity of that authentic rock sound. We’re transported back to a simpler era – the crash of the drums, the warmth of the bass, the descending distorted guitar pattern. Then there’s the voice, gentle in its short lines for the verse, paving the way brilliantly towards the explosive uplift of a finely-crafted, anthemic hook.
All of these are stylistic choices that can quickly be appreciated for their surface-level immediacy of connection. Interwoven amidst this, however, is of course the song’s intention and depth. As ever, Stevski7 walks a fine line between the deeply personal and the vastly relatable. The build-up is vague yet intriguing, and then the pre-chorus and hook – the former akin to the likes of Pearl Jam or other nineties breakthrough bands – kicks in with a very specific yet still cleverly accessible resolve.
Also featuring sublime guitar work, and faultless vocals uniting skill and emotive authenticity, Hazed Again takes its rightful place as one of the most engaging rock singles to emerge this side of the summer, and undoubtedly proves one of Stevksi7’s strongest tracks yet.
