Straight away Speed Motion lays bare an intimate, crisp and contemporary mood with the acoustic guitar sound and subtle production that guides us into this self-named single. The track appeals with ease, then as things progress, it bends and breaks the rules in likable ways.
From the subject matter to the tone, the changing pace and melody, the song holds attention and feels stylistically relevant all at once. Essentially an introductory release, Speed Motion features a catchy anthem of a hook, a moment of singular hip hop in light of longer-form and near-melodic verses.
The lyrics quickly shift from simple to complex and deeply revealing, ultimately captivating with their detail and personal outpouring throughout the latter half.
By the time the track and video come to an end, there’s a strong desire to replay it all – to recapture the essence of the topic and the delivery, to try harder to grasp it and connect with the artist.
The whole thing has a clearly inspiring core, and given the addictive yet modern musicality, the balance between intensity and summertime lightness works perfectly well. An interesting take on modern artistry and pop – well worth a listen and I look forward to hearing more.
