SebGar - Obsidian Tango - Stereo Stickman

SebGar Obsidian Tango

-

Introducing an alluring and refreshingly human, real-time guitar composition – a creative work effectively fusing Tango and instrumental rock, from a renowned independent guitarist, whose music is rightfully rising up through the ranks.

SebGar’s Obsidian Tango is an enchanting and exciting piece of original music, highlighting the unique nuance and talent with which the artist creates – this compelling blend of melody, emotion, and unwavering technique.

Inspired by the legendary talents of Joe Satriani and Steve Vai, SebGar maintains humility and structure as a modern composer and guitarist, and sets himself apart with striking riffs, melodies, and unwavering control – all of which captures affection well, throughout the colourful twists and turns of Obsidian Tango.

Beautifully and relevantly titled, Obsidian Tango notes a distinct tango groove and fragments of riff work that feel aptly connected to this world music and ballroom-style rhythm. There’s also a degree of intrigue to the intertwined theme of volcanic glass and the striking visual component of that – all of which seems quite cleverly imparted, as SebGar takes us through the highs and lows of this meandering instrumental journey.

Coming in at over seven minutes in full, Obsidian Tango is something of a progressive rock or soul-rock guitar instrumental, with a full backing track of near-metal tones and tendencies. We get plenty of short, distinct riffs in the first half, then SebGar explodes into action for these longer-form solos, slides and unrelenting fingerstyle licks during the latter; the passion and intensity rise accordingly during these moments.

The final minute and a half actually takes us down a mildly darker pathway, something mysterious, even chaotic, and that evolution is a huge part of the cinematic venture of Obsidian Tango. We begin with something snappy and recognisable, almost reminiscent of The Final Countdown, but this is quickly overcome, and through a multitude of changing ideas and imaginative scenes (each unique to the listener), we wind up amidst a much more alt-metal realm of hypnotic, perhaps uncertain darkness.

By his own admission, SebGar aspired to capture a sense of melody and emotion with this track, rather than simply showcase his ability as a skilful guitarist. Without a doubt, that goal has been reached, but you can also appreciate the precision, passion, and technique interwoven amidst the enjoyable nature of the soundscape. We glide through these opening moments of optimism and colour, and the music lets us escape the grittier weight of the outside world, whilst tending to any feelings of lostness or disconnection along the way.

Born in Uruguay, SebGar was largely influenced by Tango in his younger years, and this bold fusion of instrumental rock and Tango is representative of a long-standing desire to explore two worlds at once; his beloved heritage, and his inherent love for rock music and electric guitar tones and skilful playing.
