Cinematically styled in everything from the scene-setting introduction through the ambient arrangement and consistent inclusion of natural world fragments, PONAWORLD’s Gotta Get That Bag stands tall on the strength of its creative production traits as much so as the vocal dynamic and flow.
Progressing from an intriguing and melodic first quarter, the track later brings in a gritty rap vocal of clear, unmistakable identity and tone. That leading aspect elevates the already likable set-up, and effectively blends the kind of nostalgic garage and RnB vibe of the hook with a classic rap flow and modern lyrical threads, keeping things interesting every step of the way.
Refreshingly original yet rooted amidst a number of genre-based qualities for that eclectic, uninhibited approach, the songwriting and sound-design impress with ease. The performances too inject an edge of professionalism and purpose, of character, though in respectably calm, confident yet quietly stylish ways.
The song can take the classic music fan back a little for that yesteryear aura, at the same time as feeling authentically new and memorable in its own right. The balance works well. Hopefully there’s plenty more to come.
