From playing in live bands in the eighties and nineties, inspired by the likes of Simple Minds and Depeche Mode, to exploring the limitless creative routes of modern production, Paul Kanc is an artist and DJ with a lifelong appreciation for making music.
Diversity of style is central to the approach, but most recently, his work notes a distinctly immersive, warm and energised sound – the likes of Dance again capturing an enchanting fusion of thoughtfulness and celebration.
It’s almost melancholic, but still euphoric, rolling through with a careful attention to detail and a simultaneous sense of wave-like unity that consistently connects. And at around the halfway point, Dance again features a stripped-back moment on the keys, furthering the track’s hypnotic grip, and building all the more so on that contemplative escapism that resounds throughout.
It’s a beautiful composition, and a fine introduction to the Paul Kanc electronic music realm.

Elsewhere the tempo and intensity can be heard shifting and transforming. The track Start has a deeply consuming aura, something akin to the instrumental days of Faithless and Prodigy, only still with that juxtaposed softness that is the unity between these layers of synths, voice, rhythm, bass, and the fearless spaciousness and structuring of Paul’s tracks.
Again we get the melodic breakdown moment, the verse-chorus unexpected twist of identity, and in this case, Start proves wholly intoxicating – the rising anticipation, the power and comfort of the drop.
Underlining his passion for the process, Paul Kanc released a full-length album this year, the mighty Introspective featuring atmospheric design and soulful vocal features, such as for the initially dark but later bright and celebratory We can love again; a classic dance euphoria moment that’s hugely nostalgic.
As stated, versatility is a strength, and Kanc is a producer and DJ with a clear love for the escapism and focus of making music.
From the same album, Mystic soul (Remastered) notes a similar fusion of striking melodic riffs, alluring vocals, and relentless rhythms. The programmed voice pierces through with those modern electronic lyrics we’ve come to recognise, but otherwise the track is distinct and enjoyable for its consistency of groove, mood, and thoughtful wonder.
An extensive repertoire in action, from the heavy to the delicate and dreamy – Paul Kanc’s admiration of music stands tall, and his releases consistently hold true to both creativity and professionalism at the helm.
