Vancouver’s Nicole Sumerlyn delivers a superb follow-up to the catchy and stylish Springtime release that was Over A Drink – the new single brings in distorted country rock riffs and that ever-expressive vocal lead for a bright and beautiful summer anthem.
Leading with a decidedly fresh manner of song writing, Floatin’ is one of only a handful of modern tracks in this genre that feels authentically new. The long-form, fast-paced verses are a huge part of this, as is the way Nicole’s voice meanders somewhat lower within the mix than most – as is the mellow uplift and resolve of the hook.
The whole set-up just works, there’s a calmness in the concept, and the accompanying video furthers this – alongside Nicole’s faultless and infectious performance.
If you manage to walk away without the tune of this one running through your mind I’ll be incredibly surprised. A great hit, from an artist and vocalist at the top of her game. Turn it up loud.
