Nick Alexander pairs gorgeous, melancholic guitar picking, with intimate vocals and a kind of mild, alt-country reflective melody, for the authenticity and subtle intensity of Dark.
Enchanting and impassioned, mellow but rising throughout towards a poetic crescendo, Dark is one of the most interesting songs I’ve encountered so far this year. The set-up is simple, not flashy, non-intrusive, just piercingly beautiful in its contemplative, fireside nature.
There’s even a huge rock explosion during the final minute – a brief yet heavy conclusion that’s euphoric and heart-breaking in its presence and depth.
Nick Alexander is an Indian-born UK-based artist and guitarist, whose poetry and personal, powerful vocal nuance is enthralling. Dark is mesmerising, and absolutely worth the time it takes to let the music rain down around you.
