Beginning with an intriguing fusion of acoustic finger-picking and distant, reverb-soaked RnB vocals, NC Blondi’s new single goes on to weave in a mellow and contemplative, emotionally honest rap verse, and an equally humble rhythm. It progresses to light up each of these creative aspects in a beautiful way.
The song’s hook has something of a home-made vibe to it, the vocals are stunning, soulful and passionate as they meander through this long-form melody – which, incidentally, contrasts the shorter more rhythmic lines of the rap verses.
These verses feel a little more up-front in clarity and production, so there’s more than a single juxtaposition between the two sections, and all of this helps build further on the NC Blondi creative edge.
Dealing with intimacy, longing, regret and loss, If I Found A Way manages to feel all at once impassioned with a single other, like a whispered declaration, and more broadly accessible like a love song for the masses.
There are timeless qualities in the writing, the performances, and indeed the production, and all of this feels quite refreshing at present. Good song-writing, well-captured, with a certain air of technical authenticity that helps it all connect.
