muqi Another Day

-

Electronic production and joyful, evocative patterns meet with lyrical contemplations that feel oddly relatable – ‘Come on let’s save the world, but not today…’ Another Day is the first single from the mysterious muqi – an electro-pop artist with a unique earworm of a melody to enthral you with.

Built entirely around this catchy central hook and idea, Another Day features a sci-fi-style electronic soundscape of detail and design that’s occasionally delicate and otherwise euphoric and full. The track energises the space, feeling like both a floor filler and an Owl City B-side from a simpler era.

In reality, it’s an intensely fuzzy sound, which feels distinctly juxtaposed within itself for the synth-play and the emotional realism of the topic. We’re not gifted any further lyrics, no indication of what prompted this idea, just a hook and an admittedly well-crafted soundscape. The track lingers in the mind indefinitely, and as such, it works its magic well.

An elusive artist – no social media, no biography – just a clear conviction to the music. However, in this day and age, you wouldn’t be blamed for wondering if muqi was an AI generated artist. Consider the euphoric synths and heavy vocoder and vocal effects, the limited lyricism, the image. However, to then also consider the heartfelt subject matter, and the brightness and uplift of the hook, and furthermore to speak to the individual behind the music, is to realise that it’s purely an intriguing creative approach.

In short, Another Day will stick with you once you hit play. It will be interesting to hear where else the music takes muqi in the coming months and years.
