LA-based Mufasa Mirza leads with uniquely breathy vocals and musical delicacy on this contrastingly heavy and confident new single Chapter 1.
The first of his kind on the scene as an Indian rapper, Mirza introduces his vocal tone and consistently rhythmic rap style in a unique way. The underlying soundscape also works in favour of this sound, keeping things mellow yet intriguing and ultimately honest as the artist moves through the various bars and verses of the track.
Taking a decidedly open approach lyrically, Mirza blends this with a few contemporary rap references that are immediately familiar, resulting in something that leans back and forth between the accessible and the deeply personal. The whole track speaks on confidence and self-belief – not being held back by the opinions of others, with a few simply fun references thrown in that tip their hat to much of the hip hop scene’s most favourable ideas.
It’s a recognisable sound, and rightly so. It will be interesting to hear where future chapters take things for the actor, model and artist.
