Matt Clark - Fool's Gold - Stereo Stickman

Matt Clark Fool’s Gold

-

Matt Clark’s third single release is one that effectively raises the bar and injects a whole new level of colour and passion into the indie pop world.

Leading with a simple guitar rhythm, plenty of space, and an upfront, intimate vocal that feels emotionally genuine, Fools Gold is a call-out on behalf of uncertainty in love and relationships.

The performance is captivating – a strong melody and relatable lyrical core undoubtedly help this along, but also – there’s a rising sense of brightness and energy as things progress; and this is without the introduction of drums or any other layers. There’s a mild switch into a slightly more distorted guitar set-up, but for the most part, it’s Clark’s own passion and dedication to the subject matter that showcase the changing moments of the song, and that’s a powerful thing.

Blend this approach with a nostalgic, almost doo-wap-like guitar rhythm, and the result is a decidedly personal, honest and endearing bit of contemporary songwriting.

Really nicely done, a great vocalist and pop writer – I look forward to hearing more.
