Fresh from the upcoming album An Aging Millennial, U Got Me is the brand new single from the wonderful Like Lions, and it’s every bit as engaging and impressive as his previous work, plus an exciting taster of what’s to come from the new project.
U Got Me sees artist and songwriter Like Lions – Patrick O’Neill – dive in with a soulful, RnB-style melody and notably honest, intimate story-line. Running alongside of this is a decidedly creative and equally expressive soundscape – one that utilizes contrast perfectly well, progressing from quiet and spacious verse lines, to the full-throttle, multi-layered warmth of a pop classic. This structure helps really reinforce the natural passion of the song and the artist’s delivery of it.
While there’s a quickly likable and rather addictive rhythm and tune to the song’s hook, the whole release also connects on a deeper level, offering a fine balance between heartfelt depth and that which is simply effective and recognizable as a pop song.
Always one to bend and even break the rules in music, Like Lions pushes through the confines of genre and style, leading with a concept and an inherent desire to craft something unique and meaningful. U Got Me makes for a strong testament to precisely these qualities.
