High energy and lashings of optimism make up the bright indie sound of Pop Punk outfit Leisure Hour, as they delve into the fiercely nostalgic and catchy single Ivy Tech.
Featuring instantly likable vocals, fast-paced and accessible in a kind of believable, guy next door sort of manner, Ivy Tech soon contrasts the colourful presence of the music with a mildly darker underbelly of topic. The lyrics seem to relay sentiments both poetic and personal, throughout a fairly humble, sub-two and a half minutes of play-time.
Brilliantly infectious from the outset but increasingly addictive for its ear-worm of descending vocal ‘woah’s and the rising passion to near new-metal screams during the final fifth, Ivy Tech appears to unite equal parts yesteryear rock and contemporary freedom of expression. The result is a lyrically complex yet musically simple anthem, naturally uplifting and elevated by a passionate and high-octane arrangement.
