Kris Savage brings a fresh touch to contemporary hip hop and RnB with a string of new releases. On top of the full-length EP that is Motions, the single Changes makes for a smooth and memorable introduction to a skilful songwriter, with a fine ear for strong melodies.
Changes is a decidedly intimate, personal song at its core. Representing that we have these open and revealing lyrics, reflecting on the self and the choices made in the past. We also have this distant, nearly whispered vocal, which feels appropriately quiet yet expressive, and deeply connected to the words at hand.
On top of these qualities though, superb production allows the song to kick in not unlike a mellow EDM track. There’s a simple descending riff repeating throughout, and the softness of this lets it sink in without proving intrusive. Then we get the beat, creatively evolving every step of the way, and the structural changes vocally from a brilliantly infectious hook to a somewhat more gritty and rhythmic verse finish things off beautifully.
The whole thing speaks volumes on behalf of authenticity, passion, and professionalism. And with the new EP fresh on the scene as well, Kris Savage rightfully shows no signs of slowing down.
