Kidricc James goes hard on this single and refuses to let-up until the journey is over. From the opening chaos and melodic distortion of the soundtrack, through a bold and confident introduction, James delivers a heavy, intense flow, and an anthem of a track that effectively breathes energy and optimism into the classic hip hop landscape of self-confidence and ambition.
Gravy offers a unique soundscape, multi-layered and relentless right the way through. Then you get this vocal tone and personality, recognisable in their own subtle manner. That disjointed, piano-led backdrop is haunting, quickly memorable, and this connects well with the individuality of the artist – and indeed paves the way strongly towards the anthem of the hook.
Though lacking in contrast, the track showcases no need to drop the energy or take a moment to pause – the concept is that of determination and drive, so the ongoing vibrancy and intensity of the performance and the production makes sense. It will be interesting to hear where else the music takes him as 2020 moves along.
