Katrina Kusa furthers her impressive creative reach all the more so with another emotive and engaging new single.
This time focusing in depth on the concept of perfection, the search for something unattainable, Not Perfect celebrates uniqueness and self-identity in all of its forms.
Leading with a slightly alternative pop energy, spacious and creative, with that increasingly recognisable vocal at the forefront, Not Perfect has a hint of early Lorde to the sound and style. Katrina keeps things Kusa though, every step of the way – the voice, the lyrical progression, the melody.
The song brightens up beautifully for its hook, resolving the uncertainty of elsewhere, which reappears for the brief middle-8 in a provocative way. The song’s video also accompanies this process well, emerging as fairly unexpected, technology-centred and striking in its poignancy.
An interesting, refreshing take on modern pop and the concept of perfection. Perhaps a creative highlight from Katrina’s catalogue so far. Well worth a listen.
