The live and fairly raw sound of authentic indie songwriting captures attention from the outset, as Katie Brown releases her latest poetic outpouring, in the form of the melodically enchanting and imagery-laden Insomnia.
Appearing somewhat nostalgic and minimalist in its meeting of simple drums, acoustic guitar and exposed vocals, Insomnia follows a familiar melancholic tune throughout its verses, allowing the momentum to gather as we piece together these ideas and this overall story.
For the chorus, the song brightens up, the hook feeling largely unexpected – a shift in gears and a contrastingly basic repeating sentiment; to allow for impact when compared with the longer form complexities of the verses.
The live sound of Insomnia is quite refreshing, you get that independent, girl-next-door sort of open mic realness – a quality nudging appreciation of the talent and work of the process – and at the same time, the songwriting is impressive and intriguing to listen to.
There’s a strong sense that Katie Brown approaches music from a uniquely thoughtful and interesting place, unaffected by industry expectation or rule, and as such, Insomnia connects for its genuine artistry, individuality, and the quickly appealing nature of its melody.

Hi!
Thank you so much for your kind words – I love the term ‘open-mic realness’, that’s exactly what my music is, haha x
