Joe Radio - Rose Hips - Stereo Stickman

Joe Radio Rose Hips

Smooth production elevates the new release from UK rapper Joe Radio, blending lo-fi synth notes with a higher-placed riff and classic rhythm for a nostalgic yet clean vibe.

Joe proceeds to delve into a brief series of raps blending contemporary references with reflections on the artist himself and, later, on relationships and the outcome of aesthetic appeal over substance.

The performance feels like a freestyle, as is often the case with Joe’s music, and the nostalgic, old school vibe of the backing track supports this well.

Coming in at under the two-minute-mark, Rose Hips meanders around its topic initially, before finally focusing down on a central idea in an almost humorous but ultimately resolving manner.

There’s a certain humility to the sound, the presentation, the lyrics, which adds a new level of identity to the Joe Radio approach; to the image of the artist. Versatility is always a strength, and it’s interesting to hear how each new track differs in substance and set-up from the last.
