Jinx The Fox In My Own Way

-

Ambient production and organic musicianship meet with a quickly engaging manner of song-writing for this intriguing and satisfying new single from Jinx The Fox.

Featuring an increasingly likable soundscape, In My Own Way initially appeals for the rise and resolve of its short verse lines and its lyrics. Later though, it goes on to become this fully immersive, alternative dance realm – with various synths and details raining down all around.

There’s a level of rising intensity to the vocal delivery – by the second verse we know the voice, the melody, but there’s increased volume and passion now; the story has progressed, drawn us in even further. Meanwhile the ambiance and the beat continue to envelop the listener.

What’s great about this song is no single aspect, but rather the chemistry between all. The voice has character, the melody is simple yet satisfying, the lyrics are unusual and interesting yet still hold some level of relatability and humanity. Then there’s the hook – the repeat of the title, without its follow-up phrase in most cases. It suggests uncertainty, reinforcing the mood and lyrics of the surrounding song, and this uncertainty is what makes the whole thing connect so beautifully.

For me, there’s a touch of classic alt-rock to the writing and the performance, but there’s also a dance rhythm and a progressive mood to the structure and set-up. It’s Jinx The Fox, by all accounts. I look forward to hearing more.
