Super lo-fi shoegaze almost warped in its vintage warmth, cleverly contrasts the upfront clarity and calm of an intimate leading voice – Jenn Pemkowski presents an enchanting indie pop sound, with Dynasty.
For me, the melodic bounce and breathy poetic contemplation of Dynasty feels instantly remisncent of the likes of Frou Frou and Imogen Heap. It’s refreshing to hear this kind of swirling, hypnotic instrumental sound again, and especially with a defiantly new leading voice, an interesting topic, and a smooth hook; one that’s somewhat humble and unexpected as it offers dynamic and further energy within the mix.
Beautifully written and crafted, the layers and harmonised purity of Dynasty rains down in a wonderful way. There’s poignancy and humanity in the writing and delivery, and the structure and vulnerability combined help bring through a whole new sound right now.
A beautiful track, and one that introduces the solo work of Jenna Pemkowski under a memorable light.
