Ambient soft rock and raspy vocals with a distinctly new tone – JBNG create an intimate to explosive mood, with the sheer dynamic and contrast of a memorable So Nice.
Those organic beginnings lay down a kind of nostalgic Staind-esque sound for me, lovely electric guitar riffs and lyrical longing inviting a sense of hypnotic escapism. Then we drop in for the hook, a fully-loaded arrangement that highlights a whole other side of our leading singer’s vocal prowess.
The musicianship is also second to none, reinforcing the sudden shift in passion, and the melody moves on to this short-lined simplicity and resolve that’s brilliantly satisfying.
Weave in a colourful guitar solo during the latter half, injecting a dose of joyful excitement amidst an otherwise evocative display of vulnerability, and So Nice is a superb alternative rock track, and a fine introduction to a band with a clear strength of songwriting to back up their recognisable overall style.
An absolute gem of a rock track for the winter of 2024.
