Jacob Seeger’s vocal melts hearts on this new release. Backed up by a simple and fairly retro, unusually quirky backdrop, there are as many fresh and energizing qualities to Down as there are those that feel familiar and comforting.
Down starts off on a strong foot and continues to subtly work hard for your affection throughout. Jacob Seeger’s voice meanders through this RnB-style melody with a certain air of quiet confidence – what’s important though, is that this doesn’t overpower the clear emotion and authenticity in his voice; far from it. Down is a relationship song, one that calls out for togetherness, and the soulfully delicate manner in which Jacob presents this works beautifully in its favour.
Managing to effectively balance organic musicianship – a clean, stylish vocal, an acoustic guitar outro, a spacious soundscape in general – with flickers of electronic ambiance and personality, Down creates a quickly likable vibe and makes for a recognisable yet not intrusive new pop song. There’s a smooth and honest aura to the whole performance, and indeed to the writing, which introduces the artist in a relatable and enjoyable way. I look forward to hearing where else the music takes Jacob Seeger in the near future.
